Support at work
There is lots of support available if you are having difficulties at work.
Your line manager and local HR team can help with many day-to-day issues, including workload, sickness absence, and reasonable adjustments.
It's usually a good idea to talk to them first before contacting one of the other services below.
Staff Counselling Service
Staff working at the University can access free, short-term counselling, as well as other mental health support, through the Staff Counselling Service.
Occupational Health
The Occupational Health service supports you to be safe and healthy in the workplace.
Contact them for advice on computer work, lab-based health hazards, fitness for work assessments and more.
Harassment, sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour
Breaking the Silence explains what the University is doing about harassment and sexual misconduct and explains what to do if you have experienced inappropriate behaviour (behaviour that contravenes the University's Code of Behaviour).
There are also trained, volunteer peer supporters who can support you if you have experienced, or been accused of, inappropriate behaviour.
Mediation
Mediators are trained volunteers who can help two people to settle a dispute or resolve an interpersonal problem.
Trade Unions
Trade union representatives can help with problems in the workplace, including giving advice and accompanying you to meetings.
Trade unions also negotiate collectively with the University on behalf of staff.
