The university offers a range of financial support for staff. Find out more about what's on offer:
The university can provide provide financial assistance (up to £8,000) with relocation costs for moves within the UK and from overseas.
The Rental Deposit Loan Scheme provides an interest free loan of up to £3,000.
This can be used for some of the costs associated with private rental accommodation, such as initial deposit, first month’s rent and other fees.
The Shared Equity scheme set up by the University of Cambridge exists to provide financial assistance to new members of staff at Grade 7 and above holding a permanent (or open-ended) appointment, and holders of certain Fellowships, with the purchase of living accommodation in the Cambridge area, where they have to relocate to take up their appointment and encounter difficulties doing so.
In this case, the University may pay for a direct share in the equity of a property purchased by a member of staff (and possible co-owner) as their primary residence, i.e. the University will buy the chosen property jointly with the member of staff.

Cambridge staff can enjoy discounted shopping including deals at national and local retailers, Costco membership, and access to a TOTUM card which gives you student discounts.
Financial suppport is available to help staff whether they're travelling to work by train, bike, or car.
The university is able to offer financial support to new and current employees, and their family members, who are applying for one of the following visa routes:
- Skilled Worker
- Global Talent
- Settlement (also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain)
The Employee Welfare loan is an interest-free loan of between £250 and £1,000 to support eligible staff facing short-term financial difficulties, where it has not been possible to find funding from other recognised reputable sources such as a bank or building society loan.
It is intended that the loan can help individuals manage a short-term cash flow problem. It is not designed to help staff facing long-term financial problems.
It is available to employees of the Academic University with a contract of at least 12 months and that are paid monthly via University payroll and subject to income tax and national insurance (NIC).
It will be repayable via deductions from payroll in equal instalments over eight months starting four months after the loan is provided.
